Why buyers look past Ahrefs
We read Ahrefs' 50 most recent Trustpilot reviews (March 25, 2025 to October 3, 2026) and 50 recent G2 reviews. All 50 on Trustpilot are unprompted, and they average 2.1 out of 5. About 20 of them are about usage: credits that run out, plans that feel capped, and accounts restricted for “suspicious activity” during what reviewers describe as normal manual use. About a dozen more are about price or plan changes, and about 8 question the accuracy of traffic estimates and other data.
“Every single action/click costs you a credit on an already expensive plan, you can't do anything without draining your account in a couple of days.”Thomas Soren, Trustpilot, July 2025
“It’s not cheap, and the credit limits can be annoying when you’re doing a lot of research.”Malina, Trustpilot, September 2026
On G2, where the 50 reviews average 4.57, people praise the data and name cost as the main drawback: about 20 of the 50 mention price, and about 10 mention credit or usage limits. Ahrefs has no free trial, which one G2 reviewer calls out directly.
“The lack of a free trial is also frustrating.”Kenil G., G2, May 2026
Moz does not beat Ahrefs on reviews. Among Moz's 50 most recent Trustpilot reviews (March 2025 to July 2026), the 34 unprompted ones average 1.29, below Ahrefs' 2.1; most of Moz's are about trial charges and refused refunds, and Moz's terms say it offers no refunds of any kind. Where Moz leads Ahrefs like for like is the free trial, the mid-tier price, AI prompt tracking included in the plan, and ease of use.
