Moz rank tracker review: weekly updates, keyword limits, and what users say
By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · Moz Reviews · Updated October 26, 2026
Moz Pro's rank tracker is part of every Moz Pro campaign. It tracks your keywords and your competitors' on desktop and mobile, nationally or locally, and updates once a week. Reviewers like how clear the reports are and how it fits with the rest of Moz Pro.
The weekly schedule is the main drawback. If you report to clients each week, it is enough. If you need to see daily movement, you need STAT, Moz's enterprise tracker, or a tool that updates daily on its entry plan.

How Moz Pro rank tracking works
You set up a campaign for a site, add the keywords you want to track, and name the competitors to compare against. Moz then checks where each keyword ranks and shows the trend over the week, the month, or a date range you pick. The Search Visibility score rolls all your tracked keywords into one number you can compare with competitors.
Moz tracks desktop rankings in 200+ countries and compares US mobile and desktop rankings at national and local levels. Rankings update once a week, and reviewers mention the email that comes with each update. Changes you make to a campaign, such as new keywords or competitors, appear after the next update.
Is there a free Moz rank checker?
No. Moz's free tools are Keyword Explorer, a backlink checker, a Domain Authority checker, a competitive research tool, a local listing check, and MozBar. The Domain Authority checker lists the keywords a site already ranks for, which is useful for a quick look at a competitor. It doesn't track your own keywords over time.
For tracking you need Moz Pro. The 7-day trial on the Medium plan includes it, but because rankings update weekly you will see about one update before the trial ends. Our Moz free trial guide covers what to set up on day one.
How many keywords each Moz Pro plan tracks
Standard ($99 a month, or $79 billed yearly) tracks 300 keywords across 3 sites. Medium ($179) tracks 1,500 across 10 sites, and Large ($299) tracks 3,000 across 25. Moz lists the $49 plan as one website and doesn't publish its tracked-keyword limit on the pricing page. The Moz pricing page has every plan's full quotas.
Per dollar, Moz tracks fewer keywords than SE Ranking, whose $129 Core plan tracks 2,000 keywords daily. Against Semrush it depends on the plan: Standard gives fewer keywords per dollar, Medium gives more.
What reviewers say about Moz rank tracking

Reliable SEO tool with excellent keyword research and tracking features
What they like: Moz Pro offers one of the most intuitive interfaces in the SEO space, making it easy to navigate even for beginners. The keyword difficulty score is accurate and extremely helpful for prioritizing targets. Rank tracking and site audit reports are clear and actionable, and the link explorer is a great resource for backlink analysis. The real standout is the wealth of educational resources through Moz Blog and Moz Academy, which make it easy to stay updated on SEO best practices. What they dislike: Site crawling can be a bit slow compared to some competitors, and the backlink index isn’t as extensive as tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush.

What they like: One of its key features, website rank tracking, is exceptionally powerful for local businesses. This functionality allows users to track page rankings for various keywords on both local and national scales. What they dislike: The interface and wealth of options might require a significant learning curve before users can fully leverage the tool effectively.

What they like: As a nonprofit, we needed something simple to track rankings, do keyword research, monitor and forward technical issues, and keep an eye on competitors. This is the most straightforward tool we found, and has room for colleagues to grow and explore SEO as needed. The weekly update emails are the best and a good reminder for our team to check up on rankings and possible issues. What they dislike: I think we probably don't take advantage of as many features as we could, not having a dedicated SEO colleague, but that is no fault of Moz Pro.
Read the original on G2The complaints are about speed and detail. Reviewers want more frequent updates, and some find the reports hard to read when comparing date ranges.
Powerful SEO Tool with Solid Insights, but Room for Improvement
What they like: Moz Pro offers a user-friendly interface with clean data visualizations that make it easy to understand SEO metrics at a glance. The keyword research tool is robust, with keyword difficulty scoring and SERP analysis that help refine targeting strategies. I also appreciate the site crawl feature, which quickly identifies technical SEO issues and offers actionable recommendations. The educational resources, like Moz Academy, are a huge plus for sharpening SEO skills. What they dislike: While Moz Pro is feature-rich, its keyword database sometimes feels smaller compared to competitors, which can limit long-tail keyword opportunities. The rank tracking updates are slower than real-time tools, and some reports lack the level of granularity advanced users might want. The price point can be steep for smaller businesses given these limitations.
Read the original on G2Great overall SEO management tool that has come a long way
What they like: Keyword research features, competitor analysis & rank tracking work all very well. Used daily it's really effective at managing several websites and campaigns. It's intuitive and easy to use. The ability to ignore flagged issues in the weekly crawls is really good too. What they dislike: I think the link database is lacking compared to other suppliers, and when you compare date ranges in the rank tracking suite sometimes the differences in the numbers (up/down) aren't quite clear enough as to what they mean. Number of "seats" can be an issue if I'm using multiple devices logged into the same account. Integrating Analytics was really tricky. I dislike the range of default pdf reports that it can generate.
