How to cancel a Moz Pro subscription or trial without being charged

By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · Moz Reviews · Updated October 5, 2026

Billing is the most common complaint about Moz. Unprompted Trustpilot reviewers describe trials that turned into $179 charges and cancellations that didn't register, and Moz's help center states that it gives no refunds. The steps below come from Moz's own help pages, checked on 2026-10-05.

How to cancel Moz Pro in six steps

  1. Log in and open Account & Billing, then Subscriptions.
  2. Click Cancel plan next to your current plan.
  3. Fill in the short survey.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Click Yes, confirm cancellation. Moz says the subscription is not cancelled until this step is done.
  6. Click Return to your subscription page and check that the plan shows as cancelled.

Step 5 is the one people miss. A reviewer described the flow this way:

“A deliberately confusing cancelation page clearly designed to make people think they have canceled when in fact there is another (total unnecessary and tiny... right at the bottom on the page step)”Jon Enoch, Trustpilot, June 2026

After step 6, look for a cancellation email and keep it. Several reviewers who were charged after cancelling say they never received one.

When to cancel a Moz trial or renewal

The Moz Pro trial lasts 7 days on the Medium plan. Moz's help center says trials “automatically roll into a paid, medium-level subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled”, which is $179 a month. You can cancel on day one and still use the trial until it ends, so there is no reason to wait.

For a paid plan, Moz asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date, which is listed in the subscriptions section of your account. Access continues until the end of the period you paid for. Yearly plans renew for a full year, and one Trustpilot reviewer found a $1,079 annual renewal 40 days after it went through.

Moz's refund policy

Moz's help page on cancelling Moz Pro says: “Moz does not offer refunds of any kind per our Terms of Use.” Reviewers confirm that support applies it to trial conversions and renewals. Moz may also place a $1 authorization on your card when you start a trial; that is a card check, separate from the subscription charge.

If Moz charged you after you cancelled

  1. Collect your evidence: the cancellation confirmation email or a screenshot of the cancelled plan, the charge date, and the amount.
  2. Contact Moz's help team from the email on your account, at help@moz.com, and ask them to check the cancellation date against the charge.
  3. If Moz declines and you cancelled before the charge, you can dispute it with your card issuer. Disputes generally have time limits, so don't wait.

US law gives some leverage. The FTC's click-to-cancel rule was struck down by the Eighth Circuit in July 2025, but the Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act still requires clear disclosure of the terms and a simple way to stop recurring charges. In California, the automatic renewal law amended by AB 2863 (in effect since July 1, 2025) covers free-to-paid trials and requires that a subscription started online can be cancelled online. This is general information, not legal advice.

Before you cancel Moz

Export the reports you want to keep. Moz archives campaigns when a subscription ends and keeps their data for 12 update cycles, so you can pick up where you left off if you return within about 12 weeks. If price is the reason you're leaving, Moz lists a $49 plan for a single website; see Moz pricing. If you are leaving for good, Moz alternatives matches the common reasons to the tool that fixes each.

Cancel Moz Pro FAQ

How do I cancel my Moz free trial?+

Go to Account & Billing, open Subscriptions, click Cancel plan, fill in the survey, click Next, then click Yes, confirm cancellation. The trial is not cancelled until that last confirmation. You keep access until the 7 days end.

Will Moz refund me if I forgot to cancel?+

Moz's help center says it does not offer refunds of any kind. Reviewers on Trustpilot describe the same answer. If you think the charge breaks the trial terms or an auto-renewal law, you can dispute it with your card issuer.

When should I cancel Moz to avoid the next charge?+

Moz asks you to cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date. For the trial, cancel before day 7. Your renewal date is in the subscriptions section of your account.

What happens to my Moz data after I cancel?+

Your campaigns are archived when the subscription ends. Moz keeps campaign data for 12 update cycles (12 weeks for weekly data) and says it keeps historical ranking and link data. You lose access to reports, so export what you need first.
