Moz free trial vs paid: what's free, what the trial includes, and what it costs after

By Jean Luc Poitier, SEO and growth marketing strategist · Moz Reviews · Updated October 5, 2026

Quick verdict

Moz has free tools and a 7-day Moz Pro trial, but no free version of Moz Pro. The free Moz account is enough to check a site's Domain Authority or look up a few keywords. For rank tracking, site audits, and reports you need a paid plan, and the trial is the way to test one.

The trial runs on the Medium plan ($179 a month) and asks for payment details at signup. Plan your 7 days before you start, and cancel before day 7 if Moz isn't the right fit.

What the Moz free account is good for

A free account covers quick checks: a site's Domain Authority, its top links, and search volume for a handful of keywords. MozBar adds Moz's authority scores to search results as you browse. MozBar's Chrome reviews are critical of the free version: since 2024 it asks you to sign in, and reviewers say free use runs out quickly. Moz's reply to those reviews is that full MozBar comes with every Moz Pro plan, including the $49 one.

How to get the most from the 7-day Moz Pro trial

Seven days is short, so set up the parts that take time on day one: create a campaign for your site, add the keywords you want tracked, and start a site crawl. By day 3 you will have crawl results to act on, and you can run keyword and competitor research while the first ranking data comes in. Moz Pro updates rankings weekly, so expect one full update during the trial.

Decide by day 6. If you keep it, consider yearly billing, which takes 20% off ($143 a month instead of $179 on Medium). If you don't, cancel and check for a confirmation email; reviewers whose cancellation didn't register were charged anyway. Our Moz cancellation guide covers the steps.

Which paid Moz plan to choose

The $49 plan suits one person with one website. Standard ($99) adds room for 3 sites and 300 tracked keywords. Medium ($179) is the plan most teams pick, with 10 sites, 1,500 keywords, 2 users, and branded reports. Large ($299) doubles Medium's quotas. The Moz pricing page lists each plan in full, and reviewers' most common complaint is price, so check the quotas against what you need before you commit.

Moz free trial FAQ

Does Moz have a free trial?+

Yes. Moz Pro has a 7-day trial on the Medium plan. The signup asks for payment details, and the trial becomes a $179 monthly plan unless you cancel before it ends.

Is Moz free to use?+

Does the Moz free trial need a credit card?+

Yes. The trial signup has a Billing & Payment step after you create your profile. Many of the billing complaints about Moz on Trustpilot come from trials that turned into charges.

What is the cheapest Moz Pro plan?+

Moz lists a $49 a month plan for one person managing a single website. Standard is $99 a month, or $79 a month billed yearly, and covers 3 sites and 300 tracked keywords.
